Petrobras temporarily shuts Bahia Blanco refinery

Published 24 August 2011

Brazil-based Petrobras has temporarily shut operations at its Bahia Blanco refinery in Argentina due to a fire explosion.

The company suspended the vacuum unit of the refinery, which has a capacity to process 31,000 barrel-per-day after the fire interrupted the operations.

Petrobras is currently carrying out a revision of all of the refinery's operational procedures, reports Reuters.

Bahia Blanca deputy environmental secretary Eduardo Conghos said they would do an evaluation of the plant as the repeated incidents are raising concerns over its general functioning.

The output produced by the Bahia Blanca plant accounts for about 5% of Argentina's total refining capacity of 627,000 bpd.
